March Plasma Systems Announces PROVIA™ Plasma System for Advanced PCB Applications

Concord, CA, March 25, 2008 – March Plasma Systems, the global leader in advanced plasma treatment systems, announced today that it has released the PROVIA™ plasma system for advanced plasma processing of High Density Interconnect (HDI), flexible, and rigid printed circuit boards (PCB).

Target applications for the PROVIA™ plasma system include desmear and etch-back steps for PCB through holes and blind vias, surface activation of difficult-to-wet and difficult-to-bond layers/films, removal of carbon and hydrocarbon residues from PCB surfaces, PCB inner-layer preparation/treatment for improved bonding and adhesion, and general contamination removal.

“The PROVIA™ plasma system is a best-of-breed platform for HDI, flexible, and rigid PCB plasma processing applications,” said James Getty, Ph.D., director of applications at March Plasma Systems. “This system enables the most advanced PCB manufacturing in the world, and as the market changes from traditional rigid PCBs to a combination of HDI, flexible, and rigid PCBs, the PROVIA™ plasma system provides the power, flexibility and performance to stay ahead of the PCB plasma processing curve.”

“The PROVIA™ plasma system was created with today’s high-throughput PCB fabrication facilities in mind,” said Mr. Getty. “The PROVIA™ plasma system is completely self-contained and requires minimal floor space. The vacuum pump, plasma chamber, control electronics, radio frequency (RF) generator, and matching unit are housed in a single, safety-interlocked enclosure. Front-opening panels allow for convenient access to interior components. The vacuum pump is also positioned on rollers for easy maintenance.”

A variety of system options are available to ensure that the PROVIA™ plasma system meets a wide range of customer processing requirements.

March Plasma Systems is the global leader in plasma processing technology for the semiconductor, microelectronics, printed circuit board (PCB), medical devices, and life sciences industries.
